History of Master Ng Hang Thia
Born in 1953, Master Ng Hang Thia belonged to the third generation of ‘Zhou Jia Quan’ in Singapore. His great passion for Chinese Martial Arts blossomed at the tender age of 6, and it was then that he started his training under the supervision of Grand Master Lee Kuan.
By the age of 17, he had started coaching in Holy Innocents’ High School although he was still studying there. Since, he trained hard at every opportunity and even travelled as far as Taiwan and Thailand to sharpen his martial art skills.
Amid generous support from the public, Singapore Koon San Athletic Association was established in 1977. Hence with roots founded in the ‘Zhou Jia Quan’ family, the association’s activities comprise of Chinese martial arts, Chinese Sanda, lion and dragon dance.
Over the years, Master Ng had coached numerous outstanding students who participated in inter-national competitions, bringing glory to Singapore.
His contribution to the SanShou development in Singapore was greatly recognized and appreciated. He was even appointed the National coach of the Singapore National Wushu federation SanShou team in 1988, as well as in 2000.
Unfortunately, fate took a turn and Master Ng passed on in 2005. However, his students continued to persevere and carried forth his legacy when they were awarded the overall champion title for the open category in the National Wushu Competition the following year.
